President's Pen
Dear Ladies of the BOWC,
It is the first week of March and I’m standing at my kitchen window looking out onto the backyard. There is quite a story going on out there. The historic quantity of snow is but a memory. There is just a trace of it now. In its wake, the broken boughs are dangling precariously. You all may have similar stories to tell. The bird feeder is empty. All the birdseed is strewn on the ground just below the feeder. What! I just filled it . . .2 weeks ago. I am not Sherlock Holmes but I think I know what happened. There are 5 feral cats that have chosen to live under our backyard deck in extreme weather. The bird feeder is ten feet from the deck, which makes it their regular dinner table, so to speak. Well, I think the cat(s) used the tall snow pile as a ladder, and therefore, an opportunity to jump up into the bird feeder to catch a bird. There was no trace of an unlucky bird but the birdseed is everywhere. I wish I had seen that happen! The poor chilly cats. I know they were hungry. I put some tuna fish outside when the temperature was in the teens. The fallacy with that brilliant idea is that
they didn’t eat it before it froze. So that effort was lost . . . after a couple of days the food was gone.
In remembering all of that craziness of winter, I realize now that the pulled senses of winter days come alive with the promise of sunshine in spring. How is that for maintaining balance? Spring warms the ground and encourages colorful flowers to bloom. Our day-to-day maintenance is the same. Our spirit is renewed at the sight, smell and taste of a new season. I am ready to swap the colors gray, white, black and brown for green, pink, yellow and purple! That is true for all of us at the BOWC. Have you offered your services to the in coming Board 2010-11? It takes thought and time to create anything good. It also takes new ideas to keep people interested. Every hand lightens the burden. We all know that. Even if you may think you have nothing to offer, you will make a difference and new friend! We want you to grow where you are planted. The garden is ready!
Bingo is the program for April. Bingo winners will carry home an amazing themed basket. Need a breath of fresh air? Try . . The Bunko group, The Book Club, The Lunch Bunch, The Caravan Club, or The Tea Club. Look for each of these club as you read the Belvoir Brief. Come and join us! You gotta have FUN!
I wish you all ‘Happy Spring,’
Lois
